My name is Johanus. I’m a single father of two toddlers, a boy (born in 2004) and a girl (born in 2006). I’ve been through a lot, and am still managing as a single parent (I share custody 50% with the kids’ mom). My ex left me with all of our debts, which are over $100,000, not including mortgage, at a time when I had just lost my job. She still refuses to contribute, so there are some legal issues there. In my attempts to avoid bankruptcy, I have discovered exactly how good I really am at budgeting, and the amazing way I can handle money. I have let a few (very few) people actually see my expenses and income and they are all startled at what I have managed to accomplish and how I have stayed afloat. I spend less than $200 a month (on average) on groceries for me and two kids. I have increased my income in some ways that most people probably wouldn’t think of. I am probably the busiest guy around, and I still manage to find time for my kids, and I am making it!
I want to help people understand personal budgeting better and to assist people to have a better financial future through this education. I’ve been on top of the world, making almost $100,000 a year, and I’ve been down to making almost nothing. Knowing how to manage my money really well (and somewhat creatively) is what has managed to save me from complete disaster. I think if people actually paid others to manage their daily finances, then I could definitely save many, many people from themselves, and I know that I could teach them to manage even the tightest of situations.
Because I have seen others get into tight spots, and from my failed marriage to someone who doesn’t understand money, I have learned that there are a lot of people out there who know much, much less than I do about managing a personal home budget. And so I want to help them!
